Input, output, processing and storage

Peripherals are devices that connect to a computer system through ports. They are either input devices, output devices or both.

Below are some examples

Keyboard
Microphone

Output

Monitor
Printer
Speaker

Both

Printer/scanner

Processing

There are a number of different internal components used for processing data, however, we focus on the CPU in this course.

Software operates on the hardware. When discussing common software do not use the brand name – instead of Word or Pages it’s word processing software, PowerPoint presentation software, Excel spreadsheet software, Outlook/Mail email software.

Storage

Primary and secondary storage are covered in detail here.
